"If I go through recruitment, do I have to join a sorority?"
No. You are not obligated to join and may withdraw at any point during recruitment.
"Do I need letters of recommendation?"
It is not required and a letter of recommendation will not guarantee membership into a sorority. If you do send a letter of recommendation, please send them to the specific chapter national's email.
"I'm a legacy to a sorority, what should I know?"
Each sorority views legacy status differently and a large number of them do not recognize legacy policies in order to create a more inclusive environment.
Everyone will be evaluated individually and no chapter is obligated to extend membership to a legacy. Likewise, legacies should not feel pressure to join those organizations
"What should I talk about during rounds?"
it is important to be yourself, so don't be afraid to ask questions!
All topics are open and some possible ones you can talk about is high school involvement, their new member expectations, academic programs, campus involvement/activities, and more!
"What should I bring in my bag?"
You will have long days and you never know what to expect with the weather.
Be sure to pack walking shoes, hygiene products, a water bottle, a mini fan, snacks, any makeup touch-ups, and any else you might need!
"What if I want to be in one certain sorority?"
Only wanting to be a member of one sorority or only considering a few can severely limit your options and can lead to disappointment.
Panhellenic discourages choosing a chapter based on other's opinions or stereotypes.
"Is joining a sorority really for life?"
Yes! There are similar benefits to being an alumna as an active member. You can join an alumna chapter, serve as a chapter advisor, volunteer at national events, or work for a national office.
"Will I be hazed?"
Ohio University has a zero-tolerance policy against hazing and actively works with SFL to ensure that new members have a safe and healthy experience.
Members can report hazing at Ohio.edu/greek.
"What is the time commitment?"
In your first semester, you should be attending new member meetings, chapter meetings, programs, philanthropy and service events. Each chapter is different depending on commitment times.
"I don't drink, will I fit in?"
All chapters are required to register alcoholic events with OU/SFL and no member is required to partake in those events, The majority of sorority events are non-alcoholic.
"What are the financial obligations?"
Each chapter is different regarding finances. To read more about them, visit our financial section!
